23 Dec Dealing with Sexual Sin
I had just finished studying Ephesians chapter 4 the day I decided to share this. While studying, I started talking and for some reason, it felt like I was talking to a group of young Christians in my room. I texted my friend and told her how excited that made me feel and honestly, I had no intention of asking her if I could share this on her blog but the next thing I said was “if you still want me to, I want to write something on your blog”.
Prior to this day, she had asked me to talk about something, anything at all and I think I said “I’ll be too shy to” or “I wouldn’t know what to talk about”. Bottom line, I gave her a silly excuse. Well, the Holy Spirit had given me something to talk about and there was no backing out on this one.
There are a thousand and one things young, single Christians struggle with and I believe sexual sin is at the top of that list. Most of us can relate to Romans 7:15
“I do not understand myself at all, for I really want to do what is right, but I don’t do it. Instead, I do the very thing I hate”. (NLT) Click To Tweet
That anger and guilt you feel after doing something you vowed to never do again can take a toll on you. It starts to affect your relationship with God and you tend to feel worthless. Gradually, you stop praying, you stop reading your Bible, you start having these thoughts in your head that God will never forgive you or even if He does, your relationship with Him will never be the same. THAT’S A LIE!!! The devil is the trickiest creature ever. He knows just when you become vulnerable and he strikes. He takes control of your mind once you give him access and you start having all these negative thoughts.
God loves Us
I want anyone reading this to understand the depth of God’s love for us humans. We are the most valuable of God’s creation because we are created in His image. Once you understand that there is nothing you do that can take away God’s love for you, your life becomes better. Romans 5:8 says
“But God showed His great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners” (NLT) Click To Tweet
I’ll break down the verse above just because I need us to understand God’s love for us and stop giving room to the devil to lie to us. So you know we weren’t even close to being born when Christ was on earth right? I’ll come back to that. Psalm 139:16 says
“But God showed His great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners” (NLT) Click To Tweet
How mind blowing is this? God knew everything about us even before we were even formed in our mother’s wombs. He knows what we will do today, tomorrow and in the next ten years. God knows those things we do that are wrong even before we do them. HE KNOWS!!! If He knew all of these already, how is it that He still sent His ONLY son to walk this earth in human form, take these sins and nail them to cross years before we were even born? This means before we sin, He has forgiven us already because Christ died while we were still sinners. All we need to do is genuinely ask for His forgiveness and He’ll gladly accept you back in His arms. God loves us so much and when I think about the depth of His love, I get teary. His love leaves me in awe.
God hates Sin
We should know God hates sin. He really does. Him giving His son up for sinners explains just how much He hates sin. There’s no other way to say this but pre-marital sex is a SIN. The reason why we’re tempted to have sex outside of marriage is because we’re still feeding the desires of our sinful nature. The Bible says when we do so, our lives produce sexual immorality, impure thoughts and the eagerness for lustful pleasure (Galatians 5:19. NLT). Our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit, meaning the Holy Spirit lives in us. Imagine how He feels when we give our bodies to people they’re not meant for. Imagine how He feels when we’re on that bed having “fun”. I imagine the hurt and pain He feels and the Bible tells us clearly not to grieve the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 4:30).

Sometimes, we put ourselves in situations we can’t handle on our own. There was this one time I made up my mind not to indulge in sexual immorality anymore, I prayed to God and asked Him to help me abstain because I was ready to walk with Him so pleasing Him was my desire. I knew He had answered me too and I moved on with my life without gearing up myself for when the temptation arises again.
I met a guy and I told myself nothing would happen even if I went to His house or anywhere that might stir up these emotions because I had the Holy Spirit helping me. Well, that was a big lie because I fell again. And as usual, I got so mad at myself, I stopped praying and reading my Bible. I called a friend and she narrated how she went through the same thing some months back and how she got back up.
The Holy Spirit helped me
I decided to be angry, not at myself but at the devil for making me feel this way. Searched scriptures for His Words which I used as weapons. I meditated on them, I prayed, asked God for forgiveness, for self-control and self-discipline. I asked the Holy Spirit to teach me what to do when faced with such temptations and He gladly did.

I filtered the kind of guys I used to talk to, the clothes I wear, the places I go, what I used to say to lead these guys on and a lot more. I figured why be in a relationship with someone that has refused to understand that my desire is to please God and indulging in such acts would displease Him.
The next step was to delete their numbers or even block them, yes I had to. I didn’t care if anyone said I went too far or I shouldn’t have. The Bible clearly tells us to do away with whatever causes us to sin (Matthew 5:29). 1st Corinthians 6:8 tells us to run away from sexual sin and I did just that. I RAN!!! In the end, I made a promise to God. I entered into a covenant with Him and I am certain with all my heart that with the help of the Holy Spirit, nothing can make me break my promise to God.When you make a decision to walk with God, everything changes. Now, don’t think the devil gives up because he doesn’t. He’ll keep trying to pull you down. When you make a decision to walk with God, everything changes. You lose friends, you start to feel like you are alone, the devil tries to put impure thoughts in your head when you get lonely, you feel like things are not going the way you thought it would, etc.
God is preparing you for his best
I have good news for you; don’t give up because God is preparing you for the best. I call this the transformation stage because you’re changing, turning into the woman or man God has called you to be. All you have to do is focus on God’s word. Study your Bible daily, pray, fast because spiritual growth is very necessary. You have to be ready for the temptations and trials that will come your way. The devil makes us feel like we are too weak to handle these temptations but that is a lie. 1st Corinthians 10:13 says
“No test or temptation that comes your way is beyond the course of what others have had to face. All you need to remember is that God will never let you down; He’ll never let you be pushed past your limit; He’ll always be there to help you come… Click To Tweet
God is forever willing to give us a fresh start when we need one. Seek Him and He will gladly hold you in His arms and shield you. You might be going through a lot now thinking God isn’t listening but I want whoever reading this to know He is listening and He loves you so much. He wants you to make that extra effort today, take that decision and say NO to sin. Tell the devil enough is enough.
