I Tried Singing

Growing up, I rapped a little and then I started singing after a while. But can I really sing? Can I show the art to the world through Project Fame, Nigerian Idol, The Voice or any other show. But honestly I cannot go and fall my hand like that. Year after year when I watched the auditions at this talent shows, I wonder what some people were thinking appearing on the show. I think someone lied to them that they can sing or they lied to themselves that they could because they participate in a choir or music group, which at most hide every deficiency.

Yes,  I tried singing too but I did not need to go disgrace myself at an audition to make people laugh for years watching the clip on YouTube, some of my friends told me I’ve got a great voice but mehn, they are the ones seeing it but am not. Even if someone thinks I could sing that does not imply that I should blindly pursue a career in music. What’s the use being at pace but you’re not in the race.

Same it is with our lives, there are some lies that’s been told to us. So we rather take the easy route through the approval of a crowd over our lives. When all you want to do is listen to the crowd’s idea of what you are then you become like the crowd. Being extraordinary and exceptional means you are not just at pace in a race that is not yours but you are running in a race that is yours at your own pace.

Now before you go and fall your hand in an audition show again if you’ve done it before or if you want to for the first time.  Ask yourself this simple question, can I really sing?
